About The Position

As a Senior Estimator, you will be placed in a dynamic, challenging, and deadline-driven environment where quality and attention to detail are key and where you will be expected to produce accurate construction estimates and proposals for complex repipe & remodel projects for large high-rise and multi-family communities. You will function as an in-house technical expert on bid activities and will be accountable for successfully managing the day-to-day project needs and deliverables for your assigned project(s) to include hard bids, pre-construction, and budget and order-of-magnitude pricing, while multi-tasking and prioritizing project tasks. This Senior Estimator role requires significant related estimating experience both as a sole contributor and as a collaborator, demonstrated project leadership expertise, and very robust technical skills. This role is intended to be a hybrid full-time exempt position, based at our Alexandria Virginia offices, with some occasional overnight travel, and reports to the Director of Estimating. You will partner with our other estimators, engineering, pre-construction, marketing, and operations teams to meet business goals, ensuring every project meets our high standards.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role in plumbing, mechanical, or a related discipline—managing a team and working across both office and job site environments
  • Experience in significant roles with estimating projects ranging from $1- $100 Million
  • Advanced knowledge of related industry best practices and Code/Standard requirements
  • Demonstrated technical writing proficiency in producing detailed proposals and related communications internally, with clients, and other stakeholders
  • Demonstrated project management experience with challenging timelines and multiple projects
  • Proficiency with construction estimating and design software such as RSMeans or Quotesoft
  • High School degree or GED
  • Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills
  • A positive “no job is too big or too small” attitude
  • Proficiency in English, written and spoken, with excellent presentation skills
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills including with email, internet, Word, and Excel
  • Must be able to travel to work sites including nationally for up to a week at a time
  • This role requires regular walks between work areas, occasionally climbing stairs, and occasionally lifting or carrying up to 25 pounds

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and inspect complex projects, plans, and specifications to determine scope of work for plumbing, hydronic, fire-protection system replacements, and renovations in multi-family buildings
  • Apply our corporate strategy for bid generation to ongoing projects, including means and methods, targeted strategy, and schedule expectations
  • Audit and review the team development of scope of work details, estimate production, and proposal writing to ensure alignment with bid documents and corporate strategy
  • Establish relationships with, communicate, and presents proposals to Clients during and following the bid proposal process
  • Oversee the use and maintenance of standardized estimating software and existing processes to streamline current estimates and proposal writing
  • Track actual costs against estimated costs to influence future bid strategy and maintain cost history
  • Generates comprehensive reports on estimating performance including against established KPIs
  • Manage and control subcontractor database; communicate regularly with necessary subcontractors to review work scopes and analyze quotes for best value
  • Identifies and implements process improvements, ensuring improved quality and accuracy of deliverables, with appropriate documentation of new and enhanced procedures
  • Collaborates with and provides cross-functional support to Operations and Preconstruction teams to create solutions for job/estimating prospects
