About The Position

Eaton Aerospace’s Torrance, California facility has an opening for a Senior Continuous Improvement Engineer/ OPEX Coordinator within our Fluid and Electronics Distribution division. This position is responsible for planning and executing lean manufacturing initiatives to drive operational performance including but not limited to reduction of safety hazards, rework, scrap, manufacturing lead time, excess inventory, cycle time, and process waste. This role will also drive a culture of excellence through the organization’s implementation of the Eaton Business System.

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in an Engineering field
  • Minimum two (2) years' experience with lean manufacturing and driving at least 1 Continuous Improvement event
  • This position requires access to export-controlled information. To conform to U.S. Government export regulations applicable to that information, applicant must be a U.S. person, defined as a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (green card holder), (iii) refugee under 8 U.S.C. 1157, or (iv) asylee under 8 U.S.C. 1158.
  • Relocation is not offered on this role. Candidate must currently live within 50 miles of Torrance, California, or be current Active Duty military, to be considered
  • Expert in lean manufacturing system including training, planning and implementation of tools (and/or demonstrated capability and intellectual rigor)
  • Position requires strong analytical skills and understanding of problem-solving tools/methods (A3, Fishbone/Ishikawa, Six Sigma)
  • Understands role of quality and variation reduction in driving operational improvement
  • Understanding of budgets and cost drivers
  • Broad knowledge of product and manufacturing processes
  • Understands Eaton Business System

Responsibilities

  • Develops and executes Annual Improvement Plan for implementation of Eaton Continuous Improvement System (ECIS) to drive key improvements tied to Safety, Quality, Delivery, Inventory and Productivity
  • Develops site CI knowledge through conducting trainings on ECIS Tools and ECIS Management system components. Build organizational CI competency through development of CI Tool Champions at site.
  • Leads or facilitates key Rapid Improvement Events (RIEs) focused on deploying one or more ECIS Tools to drive operational performance for a specific area or process. ECIS Tools include: 5S+, Standard Work (SW), Value Stream Mapping (VSM), Business Process Improvement (BPI), Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), Production Process Preparation (3P), and Set Up Reduction (SUR).
  • Leads management of cost-saving calculations within Costverse tied to continuous improvement at the site. Significantly supports execution of cost saving projects to meet site cost saving goals tied to continuous improvement.
  • Develops operational excellence through driving Eaton’s Operational Assessment (OpA) progress with Site Leadership Team.
  • Drives daily accountability and a problem-solving culture at site through building key ECIS Management components including Tier 1 deployment, 5S+ Audits, and use of Structured Problem Solving (A3) method.
  • Facilitates the site’s Continuous Improvement Council, driving discussion with site leaders to further ECIS Tool and Management System development
  • Leads efforts tied to building CI engagement through ownership of site idea sharing program and CI recognition
  • Supports site automation and growth roadmap through investigation of new technologies or methods (i.e. Industry 4.0 and automation efforts) for improving manufacturing processes to eliminate waste.
  • Identifies and deploys opportunities for improvement and standardization within areas a part of layout changes at site
