Summary: The Senior Consultant SME provides expert-level scientific and operational support in transfusion medicine and military blood program operations for the Armed Services Blood Program (ASBP). This role advises ASBPD leadership and stakeholders on blood product compatibility, donor eligibility, international blood system comparability, and expeditionary blood program operations. The SME leads technical assessments, develops reports and briefings for senior leaders, collaborates with DoD and international partners, and ensures blood safety, quality, and availability for deployed and garrison forces.

Requirements

  • Strong analytical skills with emphasis on transfusion medicine.
  • Expertise in blood typing, crossmatching, and compatibility testing, including understanding differences between U.S. and international practices.
  • Ability to report on blood product compatibility and assess foreign blood supply chains.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to build relationships and manage expectations with diverse stakeholders.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant scientific field (e.g., Biology, Medical Technology, Chemistry, Hematology).
  • OR Minimum 3 years as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist in lieu of a degree.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist supporting DoD military and/or civilian customers.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior DHA/ASBPD experience or working in other DoD environments in a similar field.
