About The Position

The incumbent in this position is an environmental public health clerk for the Florida Department of Health in Hendry and Glades Counties, under the direct supervision of the Environmental Public Health Manager. Incumbent is required to work with minimum supervision providing clerical support to all Environmental staff. The incumbent in this position is considered to have regulatory responsibilities and is subject to the provisions of Chapter 60L-36, Florida Administrative Code. This position is headquartered in LaBelle.

Responsibilities

  • Organizes, files, and maintains environmental records including reports, permits, licenses, and correspondence.
  • Receives environmental clients and calls pertaining, but not limited to, animal bites, food service facilities, group care, limited use public water systems, mobile home and recreational vehicle parks, migrant facilities, water well construction, public swimming pools, public and private schools, sanitary nuisance complaints and septic system applications and permits.
  • Daily inputs fee receipts and new accounts into the EHD database system with a 98% accuracy rate.
  • Does routine environmental computer billing monthly with 99% accuracy.
  • Orders forms and general supplies for environmental section. Conducts monthly inventory of supplies to ensure proper stock level is maintained.
  • Handles animal bite reports. Ensures all the correct information is obtained at time of receipt. Reports the information to the appropriate person and/or agency for investigation the same day the report is received. Conducts follow-up calls to animal control regarding status of quarantine within one day of quarantine closure. Advises patient on status of animal quarantine closure, and other pertinent information as required by law, within one day of receipt. Enters animal bites into the EHD database within one week of bite report.
  • Performs billing and collection duties under the direction of the Environmental Health Manager for fees of various permits, licenses, and laboratory water samples.
  • Performs inter-office incoming and outgoing mail for courier service, prepares USPS outgoing mail. forwarding of FDOH staff mail shall be done within one day of receipt. Daily receives and reads incoming mail for environmental office staff and screens items which can be handled personally, and daily forwards the rest to the appropriate staff along with the necessary background material. Pick up the cash receipts from the front desk and prepares the deposit daily.
  • Reviews and enters soil evaluation information from private providers and engineers into the Environmental Health Database.
  • Type all correspondence for environmental staff. Types of legal documents and reports such as correction orders, notice to show cause and legal notices. Performs billing and collection duties under the direction of the Environmental Public Health Manager for fees of various permits, licenses, and laboratory water samples.
  • Submits statements and proper documentation to fiscal office in accordance with fiscal guidelines and policies for proper payments of such.
  • Prepares inter-office incoming and outgoing mail for courier service, prepares USPS outgoing mail. Forwarding of Health Department staff mail shall be done within one hour of receipt. Daily receives and reads incoming mail for environmental office staff and screens items which can be handled personally, and daily forwards the rest to the appropriate staff along with the necessary background material. Pick up the cash receipts from the front desk and prepares the deposit daily. Participate in in-service training programs as required and within time specified. Remain aware of Security Policy protocols. Perform as assigned any other duties within the scope of environmental health as directed by the supervisor. Enter Daily Activity Records daily. Performs other duties as assigned, including disaster preparedness assignments
