About The Position

This position is located on-site in our Bayou La Batre, AL shipyard The Senior Buyer will be responsible for managing our most complex and significant vendor relationships, procuring marine and engineered parts and related inventory for multimillion-dollar Government and commercial contracts, and executing both tactical and strategic buying. The position works with internal and external parties to procure inventory to multiple sites across the USA, balancing price, quantity, lead-time, and quality to achieve “best value for money.” The role will consist of project work including leading, mentoring, continuous improvement, cost reduction, lean supply chain, etc.

Requirements

  • Minimum of eight (8) years of relevant supply chain experience such as purchasing, expediting, warehousing, and MRP/ERP system.
  • High School Diploma required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite Programs.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Logistics, Supply Chain Management or similar field.
  • Microsoft Dynamics/ Navision/ Business Central preferred.
  • Experience with large Government contracts.
  • Experience in Manufacturing / Complex Bills of Material.

Responsibilities

  • The timely and accurate procurement of goods and materials to meet critical production processes across multiple locations in the USA.
  • Negotiate and/or renegotiate new and existing agreements or statements of work with high levels of complexity.
  • Manage the relationship cycle with vendors that are most strategically significant to Birdon.
  • Participating in performance metrics for all levels of procurement activities to include but not limited to supplier performance, supplier quality (in collaboration with our Quality team), internal order placement performance and buyer activity levels.
  • Manage raw material flow to ensure inventory is maintained to the optimum level to support on time customer deliveries while keeping inventory holdings at the appropriate levels.
  • Manages materials savings initiatives in line with profit plan and overall business objectives.
  • Other duties as assigned by Supply Chain Manager.
