We are seeking a Senior Buyer – Commercial Mechanical & Controls to play a critical role in sourcing and procuring mechanical and controls components for custom, integrated automation systems. This strategic position drives cost optimization, supplier performance, and supply chain resiliency while supporting innovative engineering solutions and on-time project execution.  Working closely with Engineering, Project Management, and Operations, the Senior Buyer ensures materials meet technical requirements, align with project schedules, and contribute to Paslin’s goals for quality, innovation, and profitability.   Bring your skills, attention to detail, and commitment to quality. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 7+ years of experience in a similar role.
  • Strong negotiation, analytical, and contract management skills.
  • Deep understanding of automation technologies (PLCs, sensors, HMIs, motion systems, VFDs) and mechanical systems. Ability to interpret technical drawings, BOMs, etc.
  • Strategic thinker with experience developing and executing commodity strategies.
  • Proficient in ERP/MRP systems (e.g., Microsoft AX or equivalent).
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

  • Procure commercial components such as PLCs, sensors, drives, HMIs, motion control systems, and electrical/mechanical hardware to support project builds.
  • Develop, document, and execute a commodity strategy for the assigned procurement categories. Negotiate and implement supply agreements incorporating preferred pricing, volume discounts, rebates, favorable payment terms, and other value-creating content.
  • Develop and manage a robust supply base to ensure competitive pricing, quality, and reliable supply. Build and maintain strategic relationships with key suppliers to enhance innovation, reliability, and responsiveness. Drive supplier performance improvement initiatives and implement long-term agreements to secure supply continuity and cost competitiveness. Monitor supplier performance through KPIs such as on-time delivery, quality, and cost improvement.
  • Collaborate with project teams to forecast demand and ensure proactive purchasing to support project timelines.
  • Issue and evaluate RFQs, negotiate pricing and terms, and place purchase orders in alignment with project schedules and budgets.
