About The Position

The Senior Buyer will oversee the full procure to pay process for assigned product category, with a focus on vendor negotiations, strategic procurement cost optimization, on time delivery, sourcing and process improvements. This position will play a lead role in day to day Purchasing functions while helping to support the Buyers and Purchasing Assistant.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 5+ years in a purchasing or buying role
  • High aptitude for working with numbers and analyzing data
  • 2-year or 4-year business degree
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems
  • Knowledge of ISO and Lean Manufacturing Processes
  • Intermediate level computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook)

Responsibilities

  • Cost Negotiation: maximize gross margin by purchasing at lowest possible cost.
  • Negotiate strategic purchasing plans with suppliers to obtain best cost and delivery terms.
  • Negotiate transactional purchase orders day to day of Shippers Supply’s non-standard items.
  • Lead procurement activities for assigned categories, ensuring alignment with company strategy.
  • Mentor Buyer and Purchasing Assistant in best practices to obtain cost saving goals.
  • On Time Delivery: ensure timely receipt of requested product for our customers
  • Work with vendors to ensure quick turnaround for rush orders
  • Manage on-time delivery metric for vendors.
  • Vendor Compliance: drive vendor performance and follow up as needed.
  • Organize and lead vendor meetings to review scorecards.
  • Hold vendors accountable to meet our quality requirements.
  • Collaborating with vendors and marketing on selection of our Standard items.
  • Project Management: Determining what to buy, how to acquire it, and defining the project-specific requirements.
  • Sourcing new products.
  • Work Cross Departmentally to achieve Project Goals.
  • Review materials and sub-contracting work needed for Project.
  • Production Buying Requirements: Purchasing for Production activities.
  • Enter and update product records with correct settings to maintain product flow.
  • MRP maintenance and Replenish inventory.
  • Inventory Management: support optimal inventory levels.
  • Review inventory turns to ensure inventory balance meets company goals.
  • Manage returns of assigned categories.
  • Collaborating with other departments to minimize aged inventory.
  • Maintain replenishment levels from key vendors.
  • Continually look for ways to improve processes and systems to make them more efficient and effective.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for working safely at all times and providing a safe work environment for all employees.
