Professional Level Information: The Senior Architect position aligns as an E3 at 9th Way Insignia. An Engineer 3 accomplishes plans and directs research or development work on complex projects, along with engaging various parties in design and development. Understanding costs and recommendations for new components may also be part of the job scope. Performs multiple engineering-related tasks and various assignments within the project and firm. Oversees the design, development, implementation, and analysis of technical products and systems. Has broad knowledge of engineering procedures and assists in the resolution of complex problems. Has strong technical skills and background, a knack for learning new technologies, and a blend of good problem-solving and innovation needed to resolve a wide variety of technical production challenges.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or related technical field.
  • 6+ years relevant experience, with 10 additional years substitutable for education.
  • Hands-on experience with large-scale system modernization, cloud migration, or monolith-to-microservices transitions.
  • Experience supporting federal systems or highly regulated environments (VA preferred).
  • Expertise in secure API design, identity management, MFA, OAuth2/OIDC, and zero-trust principles.
  • Experience with DevSecOps tools, observability platforms, and automation pipelines.
  • Strong knowledge of system interoperability, scalability, performance optimization, and high availability.

Responsibilities

  • Lead architectural design for modernization of the VA Enrollment System (ES), including migration of legacy monolithic components to microservices.
  • Guide modernization efforts supporting consolidation of EDB, IVM, and VistA REE functionality into the modernized ES.
  • Architect solutions aligned with VA technical standards, FedRAMP, FISMA, IRS 1075, and VA security/privacy requirements.
  • Support enterprise-wide DevSecOps pipelines, CI/CD automation, and cloud-native deployments within VAEC.
  • Develop scalable, secure APIs and services enabling Veteran-facing eligibility and enrollment capabilities.
  • Provide architectural oversight for data migration, schema modernization, and high-volume transactional processing.
  • Work closely with Product Lifecycle Teams to ensure roadmap alignment, sprint execution, and delivery quality.
  • Participate in high-priority production incidents, root cause analysis, and enterprise troubleshooting.
