About The Position

The Senior Architect / SME will lead the decomposition and analysis of legacy VES, EDB, and IVM system components to support modernization architecture and transition planning. This role focuses on deeply understanding existing business logic, data flows, HL7 and RPC interfaces, and system behaviors, and translating that understanding into clear architectural guidance for modernization teams. The Senior Architect / SME serves as a technical authority bridging legacy platforms and modern architectures to enable cohesive, low-risk modernization.

Requirements

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance
  • This position is remote but may require occasional onsite meetings in McLean, VA.
  • You can be based out of following states: AZ, DC, FL, GA, OH, ME, MD, SC, TX, UT, VA, NC, OK, WV.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • At least 12 years of experience in enterprise architecture, system analysis, or senior technical roles.
  • Deep experience analyzing and decomposing legacy enterprise systems.
  • Strong experience with legacy application stacks including JSP, Spring, Apache Struts, and Oracle WebLogic.
  • Experience analyzing HL7 interfaces and RPC-based integrations.
  • Experience with Oracle DB and Amazon Oracle RDS.
  • Experience with modern backend stacks including Java 17+, Spring Boot, and Spring WebFlux.
  • Experience with event-driven architectures using Kafka.
  • Experience with containerized platforms using Docker and Kubernetes, including Amazon EKS.
  • Familiarity with frontend architectures such as React or Next.js for end-to-end flow analysis.
  • Experience using GitHub for documentation and collaboration.
  • Strong analytical, documentation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to lead cross-team technical discussions and architectural decision-making.

Responsibilities

  • Legacy System Decomposition and Analysis:
  • Lead decomposition of legacy VES, EDB, and IVM components to identify system boundaries, dependencies, and coupling points.
  • Analyze legacy applications built on JSP, Spring, Apache Struts, and Oracle WebLogic to document functional and technical behaviors.
  • Business Logic and Data Flow Mapping:
  • Map business logic, decision paths, and data transformations across legacy systems.
  • Document end-to-end data flows, including persistence, messaging, and integration touchpoints.
  • Interface and Integration Analysis:
  • Analyze HL7 and RPC interfaces to document message structures, behaviors, and dependencies.
  • Identify integration patterns and constraints impacting modernization sequencing.
  • Modernization Architecture Guidance:
  • Translate legacy analysis into target-state architectural guidance for modernization teams.
  • Define service boundaries, integration strategies, and migration approaches aligned with modernization goals.
  • Modern Platform and Cloud Architecture Awareness:
  • Provide architectural guidance across modern platforms leveraging Amazon EKS, Docker, and Kubernetes.
  • Guide use of modern backend stacks including Java 17+, Spring Boot, and Spring WebFlux.
  • Data, Messaging, and Caching Architecture:
  • Provide architectural input for data platforms including Oracle DB and Amazon Oracle RDS.
  • Guide event-driven architectures using Kafka.
  • Advise on caching strategies using Redis and Amazon ElastiCache for Redis.
  • Networking, Observability, and Resilience Context:
  • Consider networking and traffic patterns involving Amazon Route 53, AWS NLB, and AWS ALB in architectural planning.
  • Incorporate observability considerations using Grafana.
  • Account for service-to-service communication and resilience patterns using Consul Mesh.
  • Cross-Team Coordination and Technical Leadership:
  • Serve as a technical authority across modernization teams, resolving architectural questions and dependencies.
  • Coordinate closely with architects, engineers, analysts, and stakeholders across M1-M4 teams.
  • Documentation and Knowledge Transfer:
  • Produce clear architectural artifacts including system maps, dependency diagrams, and transition plans.
  • Maintain documentation and analysis artifacts using GitHub.
  • Continuous Improvement and Transition Support:
  • Continuously refine architectural guidance as systems evolve.
  • Support phased transition planning to minimize risk and ensure continuity of operations.
