The Team You’ll Work With: The Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs (MOIA) was established in 1984 and incorporated into the New York City Charter in 2001 to promote the economic, civic, and social integration of immigrant New Yorkers, expand access to justice, and advance policies that strengthen immigrant communities across the city. MOIA serves as a bridge between city government and immigrant communities by advising on and supporting the development and implementation of policies and programs that improve access to services for immigrant New Yorkers and speakers of other languages. The office partners with City agencies and community organizations to strengthen language access, expand equitable access to services, and advance initiatives that support immigrant communities citywide. To learn more, visit: https://www.nyc.gov/site/immigrants/ The Problems You’ll Solve: The Senior Advisor for Strategic Initiatives plays a key role in advancing MOIA’s priorities by developing and managing cross-agency initiatives, special projects, and new programmatic efforts. This role works closely with MOIA leadership and staff to move emerging ideas and priorities into actionable strategies and implementation plans. The Senior Advisor helps the agency respond to emerging needs affecting immigrant communities by coordinating across City agencies, identifying opportunities for new initiatives or pilot programs, and supporting the development of policy and programmatic responses. This includes supporting efforts related to workforce development, worker protections, and economic opportunity for immigrant New Yorkers. Working across the agency, the Senior Advisor ensures that strategic initiatives are effectively designed, coordinated, and implemented, while helping leadership track progress and identify opportunities to strengthen MOIA’s work across government and with community partners. The role also engages with advocates, service providers, and researchers to help inform initiatives that support immigrant workers, including both documented and undocumented New Yorkers.   • Strong project management and strategic planning skills.
  • Experience coordinating initiatives across government agencies or partner organizations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to emerging needs.
  • Strong judgment and ability to work collaboratively across teams.
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 6+ years of experience working in government, public policy, nonprofit leadership, or a related field.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage strategic initiatives, special projects, and pilot programs that advance MOIA’s priorities.
  • Coordinate across City agencies and partners to support implementation of new initiatives affecting immigrant communities.
  • Support the development of policy and programmatic responses to emerging issues affecting immigrant New Yorkers.
  • Support initiatives related to workforce development, worker justice, and economic opportunity for immigrant workers.
  • Translate leadership priorities into actionable work plans and implementation strategies.
  • Monitor progress on key initiatives and identify opportunities to strengthen coordination across teams and agencies.
  • Prepare briefing materials and strategic analysis to support decision-making by MOIA leadership.
