About The Position

We are the premier choice for new construction or building renovations, plant overhauls, equipment refurbishment, machine replacement, or emergency repairs. Job Summary Heritage Mechanical is seeking a Senior Accounting Specialist responsible for supporting the VP of Finance/CFO with day-to-day accounting activities. Responsibilities include supporting month-end closes, WIP schedules, payroll and human resources. Compensation Range: $85,000 - $95,000 This position is bonus eligible.

Requirements

  • BA/BS in Accounting or Finance preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years Accounting experience.
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and city regulations and guidelines.
  • Working knowledge of federal, state and local laws governing financial and accounting practices.
  • Must possess excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Must demonstrate ability to effectively organize and manage multiple projects.
  • Must demonstrate ability to analyze and solve problems.

Nice To Haves

  • Construction accounting experience preferred.
  • Payroll experience preferred.
  • Public Accounting experience a plus.
  • Human resources experience is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Support the VP of Finance/CFO with performing financial reporting, accounting, payroll and HR compliance.
  • Oversee in-house payroll for multiple unions and process weekly payroll for approximately 30 office employees.
  • Assist with month-end closes with reconciliation of general ledger to job cost and account analysis.
  • Assist with job costing, WIP schedules and revenue recognition, while ensuring GAAP compliance.
  • Prepare quarterly payroll tax filing with W-2 and ACA processing.
  • Prepare annual tax schedules, quarterly sales tax and highway use tax filings.
  • Collaborate with project teams with respect to project accounting and material issues: billings, collections, change orders, back charges, close-outs, labor and material costs, and profit/loss analysis.
  • Responsible for ongoing compliance of maintaining employee files and associated records in accordance with all state and federal requirements.
  • Administration of Company policies and procedures.
  • Enter employee data in the company’s HRIS including salary, bonus, benefits, 401(k), and FSA administration.
  • Maintains hiring, discipline, and termination practices in compliance with all applicable state and federal regulations including but not limited to EEOC and OFCCP compliance.
  • Assist with benefit inquiries on all employee benefit and company HR policy questions.
  • Support special projects and events, including benefits open enrollment, recognition events, performance reviews, training, company events, etc.
  • Creates compliant annual Affirmative Action Plan, EEO-1, VETS Reports and related Federal or State reports.
  • Maintain current knowledge of organizational policies and procedures, federal and state policies and directives, and current accounting standards.
  • Follow internal control policies, guidelines, and procedures for activities such as budget administration, cash and credit management, and accounting.
  • Handle confidential information in a professional manner, respecting employee privacy while maintaining company confidentiality.
  • Interacts with various levels of management, vendors and employees.
  • Escalate critical and/or sensitive issues to VP of Finance/CFO with recommendation for resolution.
