About The Position

Under the general direction of the Accounting Administrator I (Supervisor), General Ledger, the Senior Accounting Officer (Specialist) will be responsible for independently performing the more difficult professional accounting functions related to table maintenance, running labor and cost allocation fund split, year-end process, and reconciling and maintaining the most complex fund in the Accounting Section. This involves assisting the AAI to ensure that all the year-end procedures are followed in accordance with State Controller Office and Department of Finance. Analyze the clearing account, prepare and post journal entries. Prepare various monthly fund reconciliations, including monthly SCO appropriation reconciliations. Maintain and analyze General Ledger balances for complex funds, including the clearing account, continuous appropriations, and special deposit funds. This position may be eligible for hybrid telework under Government Code 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California, subject to the candidate meeting telework eligibility criteria set forth in the CalEPA telework policy and/or future program need. Employees not residing in California are not eligible for telework. Regardless of telework eligibility, all employees may be required to report to the position's designated headquarters location, as indicated on their duty statement, at their own expense. Beginning July 1st, 2026, it is anticipated the position will be office-centered and employees will be expected to report to the office at least four days per week.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in state or private sector accounting functions.
  • Experience/understanding of year-end process and/or completing financial statements.
  • Degree in Business/ Economics/ Finance/ Accounting OR commensurate experience.
  • FI$Cal experience (or similar accounting system).
  • Experience/understanding of state fiscal policy and regulations (such as the Uniform Codes Manual (UCM), the State Administrative Manual (SAM), the Manual of State Funds, business law, and government code.
  • General Ledger or System experience (i.e., posting Journal Entries, reconciliations, or pulling reports from FI$Cal, etc.).
  • Experience with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and/or Adobe.
