About The Position

Nuuly is searching for a Senior Manager of Accounting! Nuuly is URBN’s newest stand-alone concept. A subscription rental brand that leverages retail expertise built up over 50 years to turn the risk of potential industry disruption into a synergistic success story. The Senior Manager of Accounting will be responsible for the brand's accounting functions and will oversee the accounting close processes for the brand. This includes ensuring the integrity of financial statements, managing monthly P&Ls and balance sheet reconciliations, and providing ongoing support to brand partners. This role drives process improvements, ensures compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley requirements, and collaborates with internal and external audit teams. Additional responsibilities include payroll/headcount management, sales audit support, and managing aspects of the annual budget process. This role is currently the sole dedicated accounting resource for the brand. As the brand grows, the responsibility for this role may expand to mentoring and developing a team of Senior and Staff Accountants, fostering departmental growth and individual career development. This role will report to the Director of Finance.

Requirements

  • Minimum 7-10 years of experience in accounting, preferably in retail, rental, apparel, or other consumer-focused industries.
  • Experience leading monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities
  • Advanced Excel skills, with the ability to utilize and learn accounting software packages; knowledge of Oracle-Hyperion and Island Pacific is a plus.
  • Advanced knowledge of GAAP accounting concepts and theories and experience analyzing financial statements.
  • Ability to clearly present executive-level summaries of findings and recommendations.
  • Ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Ability to utilize EDW/BI systems to research, analyze, & report on large sets of data; knowledge of Looker, BigQuery, and MicroStrategy a plus.
  • Positive, professional, and timely communication with teams, supporting departments, vendors, and suppliers.

Responsibilities

  • Own the brand financial accounting close process
  • Prepare monthly P&Ls and supporting schedules
  • Manage monthly P&L and balance sheet reconciliations - ensuring the integrity of financial statements through accurate preparation and execution of sales posting, journal entries, accruals, and reclassifications
  • Manage inventory reconciliations and track variances in, and across systems
  • Review and validate reporting for distribution to brand and shared/corporate finance teams
  • Provide ongoing accounting and business support to brand and shared service partners
  • Act as a liaison between brand functional areas and corporate shared service teams
  • Initiate new procedures and processes to support new business activities, identifying appropriate accounting measures and partnering with corporate partners to ensure consistency within the URBN brands
  • Consistently monitor, recommend, and implement improvements to current methodologies and practices within the accounting and finance department
  • Partner with internal and external audit teams to support requests and ad-hoc research as needed
  • Partner with the brand department leaders to support cost-control and expense tracking for the brand, including schedule creation and maintenance for monthly and YTD tracking
  • Manage and support brand payroll reporting, including monthly payroll reconciliation, seasonal bonus accruals and payouts, ongoing headcount review, and budgeting support
  • Prepare ad-hoc reporting in support of brand/department-related projects
  • Support the annual budget process
  • Conduct training of co-workers to educate them on brand financial concepts
  • Ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley financial reporting requirements, including the maintenance of policies and procedures
  • When necessary, develop and mentor a team of Senior and Staff Accountants, supporting departmental growth and individual career development
