About The Position

We are seeking a detail-oriented, adaptable, and solutions-driven Senior Accountant to join our team. This hybrid role offers the flexibility to work remotely two days per week while collaborating in-office three days a week. In this position, you will play a key role in supporting the organization’s financial operations, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting, and maintaining compliance with applicable accounting standards and regulations. The Senior Accountant will lead core accounting functions, including month-end and year-end close processes, financial statement preparation, grant and fund tracking, and audit support. Working closely with the CFO and organizational leadership, you will analyze financial data, monitor budget performance, strengthen internal controls, and provide insights to support strategic decision-making. This role also includes oversight of day-to-day accounting activities such as accounts payable/receivable, payroll coordination, and financial reporting, while serving as a resource and mentor to accounting staff.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Experience: 5–7 years of professional accounting experience, with significant experience in non-profit or fund accounting.
  • 3+ years of supervisory experience, preferably of teams between three and eight direct reports
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, v-lookups) and non-profit accounting software (e.g. Sage Intacct, QuickBooks, Accel/Provide).
  • Compliance Knowledge: Deep understanding of GAAP or IFRS to ensure compliance in financial reporting.
  • Competencies: High attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and the ability to explain financial terms to non-finance team members.

  • Experience in Medicaid Waiver, Insurance, and First Steps billing preferred
  • INDOT grant reporting preferred

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and financial reporting
  • Prepare and deliver accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for leadership and the Board
  • Lead month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and balance sheet reviews
  • Manage grant and fund accounting, including tracking expenditures, ensuring compliance, and preparing required financial reports
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, FASB nonprofit standards, IRS regulations, and oversee annual audits and tax filings (e.g., Form 990)
  • Support organizational budgeting processes, including development, monitoring, and variance analysis
  • Analyze financial data and performance metrics to provide actionable insights for leadership decision-making
  • Evaluate and strengthen accounting processes, systems, and internal controls to improve efficiency and accuracy
  • Coordinate with internal teams, program leadership, and external auditors to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting
  • Monitor financial activity, including payables, receivables, and overall budget performance
  • Develop, train, and support accounting staff to ensure high performance and continuity
  • Maintain strict confidentiality, integrity, and accountability in all financial matters
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
