We’re on the search for a Senior Accountant to join our Chicago-based accounting and finance team. Reporting to the Senior Manager of FP&A, the Senior Accountant will be responsible for supporting the monthly accounting and month-end close process by applying GAAP and Company accounting practices. They will complete reconciliations for key accounts, analyze financial statement trends and variances, and effectively communicate business drivers of the variances. This role helps drive improvements to the accounting and financial reporting processes of the company, and will also be involved in audits and special projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting, or equivalent, required
  • 3+ years accounting experience in a similar role
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP
  • Analytical, problem solving abilities. Ability to dive into details while keeping focused on high level concepts
  • Expert knowledge and proficiency in Excel; knowledge of ERP / GL systems. NetSuite experience preferred but not required.
  • Effective interpersonal and organizational skills, strong verbal and written communication
  • Ability to prioritize responsibilities and complete work timely & accurately with minimal supervision

Responsibilities

  • Prepare general ledger Journal Entries, maintain supporting documentation and reconcile balance sheet accounts assigned.
  • Perform monthly closing activities, including preparation of journal entries, reconciliations, and reports.
  • Prepare periodic review of financial assumptions used for calculations and actively work with operational business partners to update and document significant estimates and reserves
  • Analyze financial information and report on financial results (trends, performance metrics, benchmarks)
  • Answer accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data, and showing understanding of judgement and reasoning
  • Proactively resolve accounting discrepancies or unexplained variances associated with account balances and reconciliations.
  • Prepare variance analyses for select accounts for monthly and quarterly reviews, and year-end audit
  • Assist in support of external audit requirements of the company
  • Question processes, suggest and execute improvements where necessary.
  • Assist with continuous improvements efforts for accounting, including refinement and automation of close processes and reporting.
  • Assist with special projects
