About The Position

VersaTech is seeking a strong Senior Accountant to join our Finance team in collaborative support for the full accounting cycle and all finance operations. This role will provide primary support across key accounting functions, ensuring continuity, cross-training, and accountability across Financial Close, Contract Accounting, Billing, Tax Compliance, and Systems & Process Improvement. This is a hands-on individual contributor role ideal for an experienced accountant who thrives in a structured, compliance-driven environment and enjoys partnering cross-functionally to ensure financial accuracy and operational efficiency. This position reports to the VP of Operations and does not initially include direct reports.

Requirements

  • 5–8 years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Experience supporting month-end close and financial reporting.
  • Experience with project-based or job cost accounting.
  • Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, data analysis).
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
  • Experience with JAMIS or other government-focused ERP systems.
  • Exposure to indirect rate structures and cost pool allocations.
  • Experience supporting external audits.
  • Familiarity with percentage-of-completion or WIP reporting.
  • Working knowledge of FAR and basic DCAA compliance requirements.
  • Experience in a government contracting environment.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules in accordance with GAAP.
  • Ensure timely and accurate month-end close and financial reporting.
  • Prepare internal financial statements and supporting schedules.
  • Conduct variance analysis (Actual vs. Budget/Forecast) with clear explanations.
  • Support annual external audit preparation and audit requests.
  • Complete tax reporting and year-end financial package requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with FAR, CAS, and DCAA requirements.
  • Carry out revenue recognition across contract types (T&M, CPFF, FFP).
  • Partner with Program and Contracts teams to ensure accurate project setup, cost tracking, and billing.
  • Monitor indirect rates, cost allocations, and project financial performance.
  • Maintain financial documentation for government and commercial contracts.
  • Maintain job cost ledger accuracy and contract financial documentation.
  • Monitor project costs and assist with indirect rate tracking.
  • Support documentation preparation for incurred cost submissions if needed.
  • Perform billing preparation and contract invoicing.
  • Perform account reconciliations for receivables, payables, and trial balance accounts.
  • Support cash reporting and working capital tracking.
  • Provide cross-coverage for A/P and A/R functions when needed.
  • Provide support to accounting staff as backup when needed.
  • Execute multi-state sales and use tax tracking and reconciliations.
  • Review vendor invoices for proper tax treatment.
  • Support tax filings and documentation retention.
  • Utilize ERP system (JAMIS preferred) for job cost and reporting accuracy.
  • Identify opportunities to improve close efficiency and reduce manual processes.
  • Maintain strong documentation and internal control practices.
