About The Position

H.J. Russell is seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Senior Accountant who will execute tasks across the Finance function and will be responsible for specific issues within both the Corporate office and across Operations, including Joint Ventures. The Senior Accountant will provide accounting support in accordance with US GAAP. This position requires a self-starter who is motivated to implement best practices and create automation and efficiencies. This position reports to the Corporate Controller in the HJ Russell finance team. The position will interact with Operations Management and Ownership as well as other members of the Finance Team. Requirements

  • An accounting professional with a construction background is preferred – ERP is CMIC
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from a four-year accredited college or university
  • 5 years or more experience within a Corporate and/or Construction Accounting environment
  • Good understanding of accounting theory, US GAAP
  • Ability to complete tasks with minimum supervision, multi-task, and work under pressure
  • Self-starter, dependable, detail orientated with exceptional analytical, quantitative and organizational skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to think critically and initiate process improvements
  • Thrives in a culture / environment where continuous improvement is sought with a strong interest in improving the automation of the accounting and reporting process
  • Team player willing to assist and support team mates, internal customers, and external stakeholders
  • Advance proficiency in Excel and other Office programs
  • Strong software systems/ERP knowledge preferred
  • Data analysis and data management skillset preferred

Nice To Haves

  • CPA certification or in the process of obtaining CPA is strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Must be a team player and sustain a collaborative, customer centric, environment
  • Work with business partners, incl. Operations to ensure compliance with accounting policies, procedures, controls and provide support to them as and when necessary
  • Record journal entries for monthly accounting activity
  • Perform monthly reconciliations of balance sheet accounts
  • Review the general ledger for accuracy and perform variance analyses
  • Prepare financial analysis on trends, performance metrics, benchmarks etc
  • Respond to inquiries and requests from across the Company / external Stakeholders
  • Assist with Audit, incl. Interim and Final fieldwork
  • Help with any projects that may be requested.
