We are seeking a hands-on Accountant to join our Finance team in San Francisco, reporting to the VP of Administration and Finance. This is an individual contributor role responsible for entering and maintaining accounting records, job costing, accounts payable, compliance filings, and preparation of financial documentation for external CPAs. This role submits local and state compliance filings but does not own income tax filings, tax strategy, or statutory oversight of global entities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 4–6 years of hands-on accounting experience
  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP fundamentals
  • Experience with job costing and transaction-level accounting
  • Experience submitting SF and/or state compliance filings
  • Strong Excel skills and attention to detail

  • Professional services or project-based accounting experience
  • Experience with SF Gross Receipts Tax and multi-state compliance
  • Experience supporting CPA firms and audits

Responsibilities

  • Enter daily accounting transactions, including journal entries, accruals, and adjustments
  • Maintain the general ledger and supporting schedules
  • Perform account reconciliations and resolve discrepancies
  • Support monthly close activities
  • Enter and maintain job and project cost data
  • Allocate labor, expenses, and overhead accurately
  • Prepare and review P&L reports for accuracy and completeness
  • Identify and correct misclassifications or timing issues
  • Prepare, submit, and maintain filings related to: San Francisco Gross Receipts Tax (GRT), San Francisco business registration and administrative filings (including Form 571)
  • Manage out-of-state Department of Revenue (DOR) registrations, renewals, and ongoing compliance
  • Coordinate with external CPAs on income tax filings and provide required support documentation
  • Enter and maintain accounts receivable transactions, including billing, adjustments, and credits
  • Apply customer payments and perform cash application and AR reconciliations
  • Maintain accurate AR records and supporting documentation
  • Enter vendor bills and process accounts payable payments
  • Ensure invoices are properly coded and approved in accordance with company policies
  • Maintain accurate AP records and resolve vendor inquiries
  • Prepare and issue annual Form 1099s, including vendor review, classification
  • Prepare and compile financial documentation requested by external CPAs
  • Collect required accounting data from two global subsidiaries
  • Respond to follow-up requests from CPAs and auditors
  • Prepare financial information for client, contractor, and vendor prequalification packages
  • Complete financial sections of external forms and questionnaires
  • Track and submit business license registrations and renewals
