About The Position

Baylor University’s Controller’s Office is looking for a Senior Accountant to support the University’s mission by ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial reporting and accounting operations. This role is responsible for recording, reviewing, analyzing, and reconciling financial transactions in accordance with GAAP and University policies. The Senior accountant serves as a key accounting resource providing guidance to departments and contributing to process improvements, month-end, and year-end close, and financial reporting activities. A bachelor's degree in finance, accounting or a related field and 3 years of experience are required. A master's degree, 6 or more years of relevant experience and a CPA license is preferred. Responsibilities

  • Maintain updated knowledge of GAAP, University policies, procedures, and financial requirements
  • Coordinate with departments to ensure accurate recording of funding transfers and interdepartmental services
  • Provide guidance and consultative support to departments on accounting and financial matters
  • Process and analyze transactions within subledgers and ensure proper interface to the general ledger
  • Review transactions for accuracy, completeness, appropriate chart of accounts coding, and compliance with GAAP and internal policies
  • Prepare financial analyses and reconciliations and coordinate correcting entries, as needed
  • Research discrepancies and review transactions for timeliness, accuracy and conformance with GAAP and established procedures
  • Serve as the Intercompany subledger Subject Matter Expert, supporting troubleshooting system-related issue resolution
  • Analyze, prepare, and record routine and non-routine month-end and year-end general ledger journal entries supporting timely and accurate closing processes and financial reporting
  • Assist with the preparation, review, and analysis of monthly, and annual financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP, and University policies
  • Coordinate the reconciliation, review, and analysis of balance sheet accounts for proper accounting, exercising judgment and coordinating corrections
  • Maintain current working knowledge of GAAP, financial regulations, and University policies and procedures
  • Attend and/or facilitate meetings, seminars, staff developments, and training sessions
  • Participate in University committees, special projects, training sessions, and professional development activities
  • Perform all other duties as assigned to support the Controller's Office as well as Baylor’s mission
  • Ability to comply with University policies
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance
