About The Position

Job Summary: Fresh Stop is seeking a high-caliber Senior Accountant to support and scale our accounting operations across a growing, multi-site retail platform. This role is designed for an experienced accounting professional who can independently own core close and reporting responsibilities today, while progressing into an Accounting Manager role within 6–12 months based on performance. The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience in retail, multi-unit environments and has operated in a private equity–backed business. This position partners closely with Operations and Finance leadership to ensure accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and actionable insights. This role is not intended for entry-level or single-site accounting backgrounds.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Prior experience in a multi-location retail or hospitality environment, preferably within a convenience store (C-store) or QSR setting
  • Experience working in a private equity–backed company or similarly structured, high-accountability environment
  • Demonstrated experience owning a full close cycle in an operational, multi-entity environment (not limited to single-site or support-only roles)
  • Strong working knowledge of GAAP
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the Microsoft Office suite
  • Proven ability to manage deadlines, prioritize work, and operate independently

Nice To Haves

  • Convenience store, fuel, or car wash industry experience
  • Experience supporting audits, integrations, start-up or rapid growth environments
  • Public Accounting experience
  • ERP implementation or system optimization exposure

Responsibilities

  • Own day-to-day accounting activities including general ledger, journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations
  • Prepare and support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closes across multiple operating locations
  • Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and balance sheet accounts with a strong emphasis on accuracy and timeliness
  • Maintain organized, auditable financial records across all sites
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements in accordance with GAAP
  • Support operational reporting and KPI tracking, including labor, revenue per unit, chemical usage, and site-level performance
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow analysis in partnership with Finance leadership
  • Support and enhance internal controls, accounting policies, and compliance in a PE-backed environment
  • Identify process improvement opportunities to increase efficiency, accuracy, and scalability as the business grows
  • Assist with audit, tax, and external reporting requirements
  • Serve as a key point of escalation for accounting issues and site-level questions
  • Begin mentoring junior accounting staff as responsibilities expand
  • Progressively assume review and oversight responsibilities with a defined path to Accounting Manager
