About The Position

TreePeople unites with communities to grow a greener, shadier and more water-secure region at homes, neighborhoods, schools and in the local mountains. The Senior Accountant, AP Lead supports the CFO and Controller in achieving department strategic goals and ensuring accounting and financial sustainability. They are responsible for overseeing the Accounts Payable and Receivable Specialists, supporting the day-to-day general accounting functions including full cycle accounts payable and accounts receivable duties, revenue recognition, reconciliations, journal entries, closing procedures, financial reports, and subsidiary systems. They are responsible for ensuring all closing and reporting processes meet the organization's deadlines.

  • Five years or more of general accounting or related experience in a non-profit organization.
  • Three years or more of staff accountant supervision.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices.
  • Technical accounting skills.
  • Knowledge of non-profit accounting principles.
  • Knowledge of financial reporting.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws regarding accounting, finances, and taxation.
  • Proficiency in Sage or other nonprofit fund accounting software, Bill.com, MS Office (Excel).

Responsibilities

  • Reconciles balance sheet accounts for month-end and year-end close and ensures proper accounting procedures are followed; reconciles and reviews bank and subsidiary system reconciliations; updates standard financial supporting schedules; processes standard journal entries as assigned.
  • Oversee Accounts Payable and Receivable Specialist’s day-to-day activities; ensures vendors are paid timely and in accordance with contractual obligations; manages credit card purchase and expense reimbursement processing and recording; reviews and posts deposits; reviews account coding; ensures accuracy of postings to SAGE and Bill.com.
  • Provides non-profit accounting and funding experience; reviews accounts to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations and contractual commitments.
  • Maintains internal controls and accounting guidelines, including policy and procedure updates; suggests updates to company policies and procedures related to financial transaction processing; stays current with industry regulatory and GAAP requirements.
  • Maintains security and dashboard access for financial information systems; ensures synchronization of data between various systems (Salesforce, Bill.com, Bill Spend and Expense, etc.) and the financial system (SAGE), including future system updates.
  • Manages the preparation and consolidation of audit documentation for independent auditors, including financial statements and schedules.
  • Ensures efficient accounting workflows to meet deadlines under the direction of the Controller; performs other related duties as assigned by the Controller and/or CFO.
