About The Position

We are seeking a detail-oriented Senior Accountant who will play an integral role in executing the monthly close process. The Senior Accountant will report to the Controller and will be responsible for fixed assets, pension and post-retirement accounting, monthly estimated accruals, prepaid amortization, and estimated reserves and valuations. This role will also be primarily responsible for assisting in regulatory audit and reporting compliance as required from various sources.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related field; CPA preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in accounting, non-profit preferred.
  • Proven knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with attention to detail with focus on minimizing errors; ability to conduct research to ensure accuracy.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and experience with an accounting system. NetSuite experience a plus.
  • Self-starter willing to identify areas of process improvement and implement as practical; experience in identifying risks and issues and react timely to implement solutions.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills. Proven ability to collaborate across departments with all levels of management and colleagues, as well as external parties.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure accurate and timely month-end close by preparing journal entries, creating and maintaining support schedules, preparing account reconciliation, and maintaining the monthly close schedule.
  • Manage fixed asset accounting and ensure ASC 842 lease compliance.
  • Manage the general ledger for areas of responsibility in accounting, to include prepaid amortization, monthly accruals and deferrals, valuation estimations, and support other members of the department where help is needed.
  • Understand and support accounting policies and internal controls.
  • Provide support in working with external auditors for the annual audit, including preparation and submission of PBCs, providing explanations, and follow up on action items.
  • Administer and maintain ERP system, work with external consultants to ensure data integrity and operational effectiveness.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements and support schedules for the audited financial statements and Form 990.
  • Other duties as assigned.
