About The Position

The Senior CCUS Accountant will participate in all accounting and financial reporting activities related to the company’s CCUS (Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage) initiatives. This role will be instrumental in recording activity, establishing accounting policies, developing reporting structures, and ensuring compliance with regulatory frameworks and sustainability-related financial disclosures. The position will participate in all reporting to joint venture partners as well as internal stakeholders. The position requires strong technical accounting expertise, leadership capability, and a deep understanding of energy transition and emissions reduction strategies.

Requirements

  • Experience in the energy sector with exposure to CCUS, emissions reporting, or sustainability-related accounting highly desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP/IFRS and familiarity with ESG frameworks and carbon accounting principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to participate in cross-functional teams and implement process improvements.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and project management skills.
  • High proficiency in ERP systems and Microsoft Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the accounting operations and financial reporting for CCUS projects across the company, including capital expenditures, operating expenses, revenue recognition, and government incentives.
  • Develop and implement accounting policies and internal controls related to carbon credit tracking, sequestration metrics, and CCUS-related tax incentives (e.g., U.S. 45Q credits).
  • Collaborate with project development, engineering, legal, regulatory, and sustainability teams to ensure accurate financial treatment and reporting of CCUS activities.
  • Provide strategic input on the financial implications of new CCUS partnerships, joint ventures, or acquisitions.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP/IFRS, SEC, and ESG disclosure standards related to CCUS.
  • Participate in the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis for CCUS-related operations and capital projects.
  • Partner with internal audit and external auditors to support audits and reviews related to CCUS financials.
  • Monitor changes in accounting standards and regulations affecting CCUS and recommend adjustments to policies and practices as needed.
  • Perform other duties as required.
