As a Self-Direction Specialist, you will provide skills training to those individuals who are choosing to be 'employers' by self-directing their own services. Self-direction is designed to ensure that those with disabilities receiving care in their home are empowered to make decisions about the services they receive and the individuals who provide them. Persons with disabilities maintain the right and responsibility to choose that the services and supports they are receiving are meeting their individual needs. Self-Direction Specialists assist these individuals with each phase, from understanding the initial enrollment process, to helping navigate the state/federal systems, and ensuring they are getting the most from all available services. Self-Direction Specialists offer ongoing supports as needed to these self-directing 'employers'. They keep them informed of all resources available to them, and work to ensure the highest quality of services is being offered and delivered.
