About The Position

The Security/Reception role serves as the first point of contact for residents, families, visitors, and staff, while ensuring the safety and security of the facility. This position combines front-desk reception duties with security responsibilities, maintaining a safe, welcoming, and structured environment for residents, particularly those with memory or behavioral care needs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional training in security, healthcare, or related fields preferred.
  • Experience in security, reception, healthcare, or memory/behavioral care environments preferred.
  • Knowledge of basic safety, emergency response, and visitor management protocols.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and respond quickly to emergencies.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and observation skills.
  • Understanding of confidentiality and HIPAA regulations.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the facility for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift or assist residents as needed (up to [X] lbs).
  • Exposure to residents with cognitive impairment, behavioral challenges, or medical needs.
  • Ability to respond quickly to alarms, emergencies, or unsafe situations.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor entry and exit points to prevent unauthorized access and ensure resident safety.
  • Conduct regular rounds of the facility to ensure doors are secured, resident areas are safe, and any hazards are reported.
  • Respond promptly to emergencies, alarms, or behavioral incidents according to facility protocol.
  • Assist in managing residents at risk of wandering or unsafe behaviors, coordinating with staff to maintain a secure environment.
  • Document incidents, safety concerns, or security breaches accurately and promptly.
  • Maintain compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations, as well as facility policies.
  • Greet residents, families, visitors, and vendors in a professional, courteous, and calm manner.
  • Answer phones, route calls, and provide information in a clear and compassionate manner.
  • Manage visitor logs, sign-ins, and access badges while maintaining privacy and security protocols.
  • Assist with general administrative tasks such as filing, scheduling, or correspondence as needed.
  • Maintain an organized and welcoming reception area appropriate for a memory-care environment.
  • Use dementia-friendly communication techniques with residents, providing reassurance and redirection as needed.
  • Recognize behavioral changes, agitation, or distress and report promptly to nursing or supervisory staff.
  • Support residents with safe movement throughout the facility, assisting when behavioral or cognitive challenges arise.
  • Promote a calm, structured environment to reduce resident stress and overstimulation.
  • Work closely with nursing, administrative, and activity staff to ensure a coordinated approach to resident safety and care.
  • Provide timely reports and updates to supervisors regarding safety concerns, visitor activity, or unusual incidents.
  • Participate in team meetings, safety drills, and training as required.
