We are seeking a cross trained, full-service, public safety call-taker and dispatcher to help us provide services in our Security Operations Center. The focus of this position is to ensure timely call-taking, dispatching and call processing during peak business hours Monday through Friday. You will be joining a hardworking team of security experts who support the mission of APL's analysts, engineers and scientists. As a Security Operations Center Call-Taker and Dispatcher... Your primary responsibility will be to answer emergency and non-emergency calls, process them using a computer aided dispatch system and dispatch the calls for service. You will evaluate situations and determine the appropriate safety response. You will be responsible for making notifications to, and coordinating service responses by, the APL Security Force, the APL Fire Department, and APL's facilities management professionals. You will monitor and act on information from alarms systems, video monitoring systems, and access control systems. You will be an essential part of, and coordinate, the daily activities of the APL Security Force. You will continue to use the same skills that you have developed working in a public safety answering point environment.

Requirements

  • Possess a High School Diploma or GED
  • Have successfully been employed as a Police and/or Fire cross-trained call-taker and dispatcher at a 911 Center (public safety answering point) for 10 or more years.
  • Have thorough knowledge of the use of computer aided dispatch (CAD) systems.
  • Have the ability to quickly process emergency and non-emergency calls for service, enter CAD data, dispatch personnel and status the calls.
  • Are Emergency Medical Dispatch certified.
  • Are skilled in using personal computers as well as word processing.
  • Can effectively communicate, orally and in writing, in the English language with representatives throughout the APL organization as well as external business contacts.
  • Are able to obtain an Interim Top Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a Top Secret level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

Nice To Haves

  • Have supervisory experience supervising the daily operations of a 911 Center.
  • Have experience updating and making modifications to CAD databases.
  • Have experience as a Communications Training Officer (CTO).
