About The Position

Under the direction of the security officer lead and security supervisor, the Security Officer performs post duty assignments, documents unusual occurrences, enforces Kaweah Health policies and regulations, and conducts parking enforcement. This role supports Kaweah Health's Mission, Vision and Values through the Security Management Program. The position involves a variety of duties including floor patrols throughout the Kaweah Health facilities, offices, and parking areas. Responsibilities include providing building and grounds security, securing buildings, and protecting against theft, vandalism, inappropriate entry, fire hazards, and acts of violence. The officer conducts campus patrols, provides safety escort services, performs daily lock and unlock procedures for buildings, responds to and investigates alarm activations, and cooperates with outside law enforcement agencies. The role also ensures the HIPAA rights of patients, enforces parking regulations, issues warnings and citations, provides after-hour visitation control, and maintains a daily activity log. The Security Officer actively participates in required annual training, acts as a Hazmat First Responder, conducts monthly inspections, assesses and deescalates violent situations, conducts investigations, provides one-on-one observation for psychiatric patients, and assists with physically restraining patients when ordered by a physician. Additional duties include providing temporary relief for other personnel, securing visitor-patient weapons, offering motor vehicle assistance, and conducting ground surveys.

Requirements

  • Proprietary Private Security Officer or Guard/Patrolperson registration
  • HeartSaver AED
  • Kaweah Health approved crisis intervention training within 60 days of hire/transfer
  • Valid California Drivers License
  • Must provide DMV report prior to offer being made
  • No driving infractions 5 years prior to hire or during time in this job (Infractions include DUI, Suspended or Revoked License, Reckless Driving)
  • Must pass the Physical Capacity Exam (PCE)
  • This exam includes a 50-pound lifting requirement

Nice To Haves

  • International Association for Healthcare Security & Safety (IAHSS) certification within three months of hire/transfer
  • High school diploma
  • One year experience in a security related field

Responsibilities

  • Performs a variety of duties to include, but not limited to floor patrols throughout the Kaweah Health as well as offices and parking facilities owned/operated by the Kaweah Health.
  • Provides building and grounds security.
  • Secures buildings, and protects against theft, vandalism, inappropriate entry, fire hazards, acts of violence, etc.
  • Conducts campus patrols to include the parking lots and garages.
  • Provides safety escort service to staff and visitors.
  • Performs daily lock and unlock of numerous buildings throughout the Kaweah Health.
  • Responds to all alarm activations and investigates cause.
  • Conducts monthly testing of alarms as assigned.
  • Cooperate with outside law enforcement agencies.
  • Protects and ensures the HIPAA rights of all patients.
  • Enforces Kaweah Health parking regulations and traffic control.
  • Issues parking warnings and citations as appropriate.
  • Provides after hour visitation control and escorts.
  • Keeps a daily activity log of all activities and calls for service.
  • Actively participates in required annual training including Assaultive Behavior, Hazmat, Fire Response, and First Aid/CPR Training.
  • Acts as Hazmat First Responder.
  • Conducts monthly emergency lighting and eyewash/shower inspections.
  • Appropriately assesses violent patients or visitors and applies appropriate interventions to quickly and peacefully deescalate the situation.
  • Conducts investigations into allegations of a variety of inappropriate activities, rules infractions or illegal actions.
  • Provides one-on-one observation of psychiatric or 51/50 patients.
  • Assists with physically holding down patients who are subject to be restrained with physician order.
  • Provides temporary relief for other Kaweah Health personnel as appropriate and as assigned.
  • Collects visitor-patient weapons and secures them in the property room safe until called for.
  • Provides motor vehicle assist to staff and or visitors (i.e. jump start vehicles).
  • Conducts monthly ground surveys and report findings.
  • Reports lights out in parking lots and garages when observed.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and services appropriate to the population served on the assigned unit or work area.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
