Security Officer – Building Security (part-time, 17.5 hours/week) This position provides security services across assigned university facilities, including Building Security, Museum of Art (MOA), Mission Training Center (MTC), Library (HBLL), Broadcasting Building (BYUB), Motion Picture Studios (MPS), and the Goshen Facility. Responsibilities include patrolling for security risks, enforcing university policies, supporting emergency response, and coordinating with BYU Police to ensure the safety of people and property.

Requirements

  • A firm commitment to the mission of BYU.
  • High school diploma or GED
  • U.S. citizen
  • Valid Utah driver’s license with a clean record
  • Ability to pass a thorough background investigation
  • Ability to meet department physical fitness standards
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Knowledge of security practices and emergency response procedures
  • Ability to remain calm, professional, and decisive in high-pressure situations
  • Working knowledge of criminal laws and procedures, including search, seizure, and use of force
  • Proficiency with security equipment and related systems

Nice To Haves

  • Previous security or law enforcement experience
  • Supervisory or field training experience
  • Understanding of crime prevention principles and campus security operations

Responsibilities

  • Patrol and inspect assigned areas and surrounding locations for security risks
  • Enforce university security policies and procedures
  • Identify suspicious or criminal activity and coordinate with BYU Police
  • Assist sworn officers and respond to calls for service
  • Initiate and support emergency response efforts
  • Monitor and operate electronic and physical security systems
  • Maintain assigned shift coverage
