About The Position

Come work with the BYU Family History Program! Our unique program offers the only bachelor’s degree in family history in the world and is an unusual hybrid of a liberal arts degree in history and a technical degree in genealogy. We offer intensive training and prepare students for a variety of professions and community service. As Program Assistant, you will work closely with the faculty Program Director to provide administrative support to students and faculty, coordinate events, and communicate with Family History industry partners and other colleges and universities. Requirements

  • A firm commitment to the mission of BYU
  • Bachelor’s degree or four years of office experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Organizational skills, with ability to track data and information across multiple platforms
  • Experience with Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Enthusiasm for working with undergraduate students

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree and 2+ years of office experience
  • Familiarity with family history and genealogy
  • Experience with Photoshop, InDesign, or similar design software
  • Experience working in higher education
  • Project management experience

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Family History Program Director to organize and plan meetings, communicate with students, and coordinate with the Center for Family History and Genealogy (CFHG) and the Family History Librarian
  • Establish and maintain regular communication with current and potential industry and academic partners
  • Plan and coordinate events with industry partners to provide opportunities for students to increase their skills and networking
  • Maintain databases of alumni, student contact lists, and companies/institutions that want to partner with family history faculty, staff, and students
  • Coordinate with department and CFHG personnel to ensure a Family History program presence at major fairs, career fairs, and other program-related events
