The Security Manager provides strong leadership of the Security department and oversees a comprehensive effort to ensure the safety and security of visitors, staff, and collections.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required, BA/BS in Criminal Justice or related is preferred.
  • Must have a minimum of seven (7) years of security experience, including at least three (3) years at a supervisory level.
  • Strong understanding of Museum policies, security, emergency response, and leadership.
  • Reliable, detail‑oriented, and strong work ethic.
  • Strong written and verbal skills in English and the ability to formulate and articulate security strategies and solutions to all levels of management in a context that aligns with the culture of the organization
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities accurately.
  • Professional, engaging demeanor with interest in visitor interaction.
  • Ability to enforce policies politely and professionally.
  • Basic computer proficiency; email, Museum software, security systems, wireless technology.
  • Variable schedule including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Responsibilities

  • Assess risks and implement appropriate measures to protect the collection, facility, visitors, and employees while maintaining the museum’s commitment to customer service.
  • Oversee the day-to day operations of the 24-hour Security department, including staffing, scheduling, and performance management.
  • Design and update policies and procedures to improve operations.
  • Serve as Project Manager and Primary Operator on the Museum security system. Maintain ID and key control.
  • Prepare, implement, and maintain the Facility Security and Emergency Preparedness plan, in cooperation with others in Museum leadership.
  • Develop and implement a staff training program (for Security and other staff) on relevant security issues and emergency procedures.
  • Play a direct and leading role in the Museum’s response to emergencies.
  • Act as primary advisor to the Museum leadership team on security issues.
  • Promote customer service standards and assist visitors courteously.
