The Security Manager provides strong leadership of the Security department and oversees a comprehensive effort to ensure the safety and security of visitors, staff, and collections.

Requirements

High School diploma or equivalent is required, BA/BS in Criminal Justice or related is preferred.
Must have a minimum of seven (7) years of security experience, including at least three (3) years at a supervisory level.
Strong understanding of Museum policies, security, emergency response, and leadership.
Reliable, detail‑oriented, and strong work ethic.
Strong written and verbal skills in English and the ability to formulate and articulate security strategies and solutions to all levels of management in a context that aligns with the culture of the organization
Ability to manage multiple responsibilities accurately.
Professional, engaging demeanor with interest in visitor interaction.
Ability to enforce policies politely and professionally.
Basic computer proficiency; email, Museum software, security systems, wireless technology.
Variable schedule including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Responsibilities

Assess risks and implement appropriate measures to protect the collection, facility, visitors, and employees while maintaining the museum’s commitment to customer service.
Oversee the day-to day operations of the 24-hour Security department, including staffing, scheduling, and performance management.
Design and update policies and procedures to improve operations.
Serve as Project Manager and Primary Operator on the Museum security system. Maintain ID and key control.
Prepare, implement, and maintain the Facility Security and Emergency Preparedness plan, in cooperation with others in Museum leadership.
Develop and implement a staff training program (for Security and other staff) on relevant security issues and emergency procedures.
Play a direct and leading role in the Museum’s response to emergencies.
Act as primary advisor to the Museum leadership team on security issues.
Promote customer service standards and assist visitors courteously.
