Security Fellowship Program (Part-Time, Non-Employment Program)
About The Position
The Middle East Institute (MEI) Security Fellowship Program is a selective, yearlong professional development opportunity designed to cultivate emerging leaders in Middle East security and foreign policy. The program convenes a cohort of 20–25 mid-career professionals for structured engagement with senior policymakers, subject matter experts, and peers across the national security community. Through monthly seminars and discussions, Fellows gain exposure to high-level policy debates, leadership insights, and real-world decision-making. The program also emphasizes the development of writing and communication skills, with optional opportunities to contribute to MEI publications. This Fellowship is a professional development and networking program and does not constitute an employment position with MEI.
Requirements
- Mid-career professionals with approximately 7+ years of experience in national security, foreign policy, or a related field
- Demonstrated interest in Middle East policy, security, or regional affairs
- Ability to participate in in-person programming in Washington, DC
- Due to the nature of the program’s engagement with U.S. government stakeholders and partner institutions, participation is limited to U.S. citizens.
Responsibilities
- Monthly in-person seminars in Washington, DC
- Engagement with guest speakers from: U.S. Executive and Legislative branches Military and civilian leadership of key regional partners Think tanks and academic institutions
- Participation in discussions on regional security, policy, and leadership
- One full-day program excursion within the National Capital Region
- Optional opportunity to contribute written content for MEI publications
