Security Coordinator Department: Human Resources FLSA Status: Non-Exempt JOB SUMMARY Under the direction of the Security Manager with a dotted line to the Director of Human Resources and the Branch Manager, the Security Coordinator is responsible for patrolling the library building and property at regular intervals to maintain the security of the library and administering library rules and policies to ensure appropriate patron conduct on library property.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent certificate
  • One year civilian or military experience in security, safety, loss prevention or law enforcement (related customer service experience may be considered as a substitute for direct security requirements).
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation and insurability required.
  • Knowledge of customer service, conflict resolution and emergency procedures.
  • Ability to make mature decisions in potentially disruptive or emergency situations
  • Provide excellent customer service.
  • Skill in de-escalation and positive communication.
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of people
  • Knowledge of basic workplace technology including email, internet and automated software.
  • Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling while walking, standing or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces. The amount of balancing exceeds that needed for ordinary locomotion and maintenance of body equilibrium.
  • Climbing: Ascending or descending stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized.
  • Manual Dexterity: Picking, pinching, typing, or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.
  • Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make discrimination sound.
  • Kneeling: Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees
  • Speaking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word including the ability to convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately and concisely.
  • Standing: Particularly for sustained periods of time.
  • Stopping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. Occurs to a considerable degree and require full motion of the lower extremities and back muscles.
  • Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.

  • Experience working in a library or educational environment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides general assistance to library visitors and staff in matters relating to building security, maintenance and safety
  • Welcome and greet library users
  • Explain and enforce library policies to the public
  • Patrols interior of building and exterior grounds to maintain security of library patrons, property and staff.
  • Anticipates situations which may result in inappropriate behavior.
  • Monitors patron activity in the library and on library property to maintain an appropriate environment consistent with the library’s policies.
  • Works to diffuse potentially difficult situations and if needed escorts patrons who violate the Live Oak Public Libraries Customer Behavior Policy from the building.
  • Calls for police assistance when needed.
  • Escorts staff to their vehicles as requested.
  • Prepares and submits incident and accident reports
  • Assists with meeting room set-up and takedown
  • Provides daily traffic control and directional information during special events programs
  • Accept responsibility for the safety and well-being of library patrons
