About The Position

A position has been declared open in the Weber School District for a part-time Secondary Aide with an emphasis on Student Advocacy. This role is for 5.75 hours per day, 180 days (9 months) per year, and compensation follows Lane 4(B) of the Paraprofessionals Salary Schedule. The primary purpose of the Student Advocate Aide is to support students who are below proficiency in a relational, non-punitive manner, building trust and rapport. This support is crucial for helping students develop academic, behavioral, and social skills through encouragement and tailored guidance, enabling them to maintain pace or progress within the Weber School District graduation plan. The Advocate Aide will work under the guidance of the Counseling and Administration teams, providing direct support, assisting students in accessing school and community resources, and collaborating with all stakeholders involved in the student's educational journey.

Requirements

  • Competency in using Google Suite (especially Sheets and Docs) to track, analyze, and communicate student progress effectively.
  • Familiarity with tutoring, instructional, and intervention techniques suited to adolescents; ability to adapt support to students’ individual needs and development stages.
  • Capacity to creatively address students’ challenges, supporting them in setting and achieving their goals.
  • Clear and empathetic communication with students, staff, families, and community partners, fostering open and supportive relationships.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience working with students in a school or related environment is preferred.
  • Additional training in education, social work, or counseling is beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Actively support the MTSS program, focusing primarily on Tier 2 and Tier 3 students by monitoring, mentoring, and facilitating growth.
  • Prioritize building trust-based relationships with students, addressing academic and behavioral needs only after establishing a connection. Work from the Student Support Center to provide individualized support.
  • Offer holistic support to ensure students meet the academic and behavioral requirements to advance to the next grade level. This includes liaising with families, teachers, and community partners, and proactively monitoring attendance and behavioral indicators.
  • Facilitate students' completion of progress charts, reinforce effective study skills, and guide them in transitioning back to Tier 1 support.
  • Maintain open, timely, and constructive communication with students, families, and staff to foster a strong school-home partnership.
  • Regularly assess student progress in attendance, academic performance, and behavior, recording and reporting this information to inform interventions.
  • Document all relevant student and family interactions while maintaining confidentiality and professional boundaries.
  • Assist in supervising students both in instructional and non-instructional settings, ensuring a safe and supportive school environment.
  • Provide a safe, encouraging space for students to explore and build social-emotional skills, guiding them toward positive self-management and interpersonal skills.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and contribute to meetings at the school and district levels.
  • Step into classrooms as needed to provide coverage, engage students in learning, and maintain continuity.
  • Work closely with students individually and in small groups, offering tailored academic and SEL support.
  • Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
