About The Position

To coordinate, implement, and coach the City of La Porte TAAF summer youth track & field program.

Requirements

• Knowledge of techniques of supervising children during a track program.
• Knowledge of instructional phases and implementation of a track program.
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
• Ability to coordinate and implement all phases of a track program.
• Ability to work well with & direct children in a nurturing learning environment.
• Ability to work effectively in hot outdoor conditions without limitations.
• 1 – 2 years of experience in directing or assisting a youth track program, including track meet organization, is required.
• Hands-on coaching or teaching experience is required.
• High school diploma is required.

Nice To Haves

• Possession of a Class ‘C’ Commercial Driver's License w/passenger endorsement is preferred but not required.
• Bachelor’s degree in physical education or related field is preferred

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and implement the TAAF summer youth track & field program.
• Instruct/coach all participants in basic track fundamentals.
• Organize & run 2 - 3 circuit track meets during the summer season.
• Host the Region 1 TAAF Regional Meet every 3rd or 4th year.
• Respond to inquiries or requests for information from program-participant parents.
• Provide track meet & practice schedules to all parents and keep them informed of any important updates.
• Supervise and chaperone all participants at any out-of-town meets.
• Schedule vehicle usage for the TAAF State Meet (Summer Games) and drive vehicles to and from those meets.
• Inventory and distribute athlete tops/jerseys, ribbons, and/or medals.
• Register qualifying athletes for the Regional Meet and State Meet.
• Perform related duties as needed.
