About The Position

The Seasonal Marina Dockhand is responsible for assisting with all marina services offered and the general operation of the docks at Pirate’s Cove Marina during the months of May to September; including but not limited to maintaining a clean and safe dock area, assisting with fueling vessels, and assisting with the arrival and departure of vessels.

Requirements

  • Partial High School education; High School Diploma/G.E.D. equivalent preferred.
  • Proper etiquette on telephones and handheld radio.
  • Boat handling and knowledge of nautical terminology or the ability to learn quickly.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to recognize when a problem has occurred and communicate it to management.
  • Moderately familiar with hand and power tools.
  • Skilled in the use of a golf cart or other motorized vehicle.
  • Bend, lift, carry, reach/extend arms, and hands above shoulder height frequently, or otherwise move in a constantly changing environment.
  • Must be able to swim or be willing to wear personal flotation device while on duty.
  • Lifting, carrying, and pushing up to 25 lbs. regularly, 30-35 lbs. frequently, and up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
  • Ability to stand for the entire workday.
  • Climbing steps regularly.
  • Working in wet and slippery conditions.
  • Frequently working in an outdoor, hot, and damp environment.
  • Frequently immerses hands in water.
  • Withstanding temperature extremes in outdoor environments and inclement weather.
  • Reading and writing work-related documents in English.
  • Physical presence at the job site is essential to perform job duties.

Responsibilities

  • Fuel boats while maintaining a safe environment, following appropriate procedures and guidelines.
  • Perform morning and afternoon dock checks including fueling station and vessel inventory.
  • Perform basic cleaning of all restrooms, showers, and ship store throughout the day.
  • Set up, break down, and cleaning of The Pavilion before and after events.
  • Maintain and clean docks, walkways, ramp ways, grounds, equipment, and other designated areas.
  • Perform daily trash removal throughout the marina.
  • Perform periodic walks through docks, common areas and parking lots for cigarette butts and other debris.
  • Inspect docked vessels such as dock lines, electrical cords, cable connections and fenders to ensure all equipment is neat, clean, and safe.
  • Maintain awareness of safety issues and report them immediately to your manager.
  • Perform marina safety inspections including, but not limited to the following: Sheens within the marina that may indicate a fuel leak. Objects that could contribute to tripping hazards.
  • Other duties as assigned.
