DCR is looking for applicants for a Seasonal Boat Ramp Monitor position at Pequot Pond in Westfield. This position requires an eight hour work day, five days a week including every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and including Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day. The monitor educator will be stationed at the lake boat ramp and will report to DCR Lakes and Ponds Program staff. As part of the Commonwealth’s effort to control the spread of non-native aquatic invasive species (AIS) in our lakes and ponds, the educator will perform voluntary inspections on boats, trailers, and gear. Ramp monitors will look for, and remove, any hitchhiking plants or animals and will distribute educational materials to boaters. In addition, boat ramp monitors will conduct a brief survey of boaters that use the facilities. Occasionally the educator may be requested to visit nearby boat ramps, or work an additional day, if a fishing derby or other high-use event is scheduled at that facility. Boat ramp monitors may also be offered the opportunity to participate in additional DCR Lakes and Ponds AIS programs.
