About The Position

The Office of Technology at Leidos has an opportunity for Scrum Master and Project Manager role working hybrid or at any of our locations, leading the Digital Engineering collaboration and innovation efforts under the Director of Digital Engineering for the Defense Systems Sector. Leidos’ Defense Systems Sector’s Digital Engineering team is a service-oriented organization that works with programs and project teams to systematically improve efficiency, eliminate and prevent pain points, and bring modern digital practices to the hands of the tactical day-to-day employee. We are responsible for architecting and implementing large-scale Digital solutions, independent reviews of digital practices, and support of teams implementing new practices. The team plays a pivotal role in fostering teamwork, creativity, and technological advancement in digital engineering initiatives, driving competitive advantage and value creation for the organization. We are looking for a Scrum Master that has experience working as a key member of our Agile Scrum Teams. The ideal candidate will have experience coaching, mentoring and training team members in self-management, cross-skilling, transparency and living the Scrum Values of commitment, focus, openness, respect and courage. Strong people skills will be a differentiator for anyone interested in applying.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related discipline with minimum of 12 years of relevant professional experience (Additional experience may be considered in lieu of degree)
  • 3+ years of experience running Agile Scrum - experience with Scrum event facilitation – Planning, Standup, Sprint Review, and Retrospective
  • Certified Scrum Master required (Candidates without certs will be considered if they have several years of experience above basic qualifications)
  • Experience with backlog management tools, such as ADO, JIRA, etc. or similar
  • Proven soft skills in working with various personality types

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in SM role using Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe)
  • Working knowledge of backlog prioritization techniques (RICE, Kano, MoSCoW, etc.)
  • Software skills highly desired
  • Working knowledge of Leidos Software Engineering practices desired

Responsibilities

  • Guide teams through a maturity journey starting with the foundations outlined in the Scrum Guide, understand and experience why the framework works and ultimately how and when to change their own processes to suit their needs while still achieving the principles of the Agile Manifesto.
  • Encourage best engineering practice like Definition of Done, Coding standards and compliance, automation, pair programming, as appropriate.
  • Partner with the Product Owner to be mindful of short- and long-term goals and applying approaches to help focus on solving the right problems at the right time then building solutions with iterative, experimental, customer-centric and data-driven activities
  • Help formal leaders and stakeholders understand and enact empirical approaches for complex work
  • Engage with other Scrum Masters to elevate larger organizational issues and patterns impacting collective organizational performance
  • Facilitate the team’s progress towards team’s goals: Continuously challenging the old norms of development to improve performance in the areas of quality, predictability, flow, and velocity. Help the team focus on daily and iteration goals
  • Build a high-performing team: Focusing on ever-improving team dynamics and performance.
