Position Summary A competent surgical technician, who, under supervision of the physician/registered nurse assists with the surgical procedures and provides patient care for ante partum and postpartum patients according to established policies and procedures in the Labor & Delivery area. Skills will be maintained to prepare the patient and assist throughout surgical procedures. Job requires knowledge, skill and ability to provide care for neo-natal, adolescent, and adult patient population. Effectively interacts with the patient, significant others and health care team members. Accountable to the patient and family for care provided and to the assigned patient care RN for the totality of work performance. Meets all standards and requirements of LMHS universal job description Provides clerical support to an assigned nursing unit according to established policies and procedures. Assists in the transcribing and processing of physicians orders, maintains patient charts in an accurate manner and maintains adequate unit supplies.

Requirements

  • Maintain Health Care Provider CPR Certification.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize hospital & department information/documentation systems
  • Maintain Glucometer Competency
  • Thermo-regulation of infant.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of surgical instruments, equipment and procedures.
  • Directly assist surgeon in cesarean section and other obstetric procedures
  • Maintain knowledge for basic newborn nursery tasks including bathing, feeding, Vital Signs, measurements, and newborn testing.
  • Communicate effectively with all members of the healthcare team.
  • Maintain sterile field during surgical procedures.
  • Obtain patient vital signs and report abnormal values to RN.
  • Demonstrates proper technique related to cleaning and processing of instruments.
  • L&D daily shift checks of equipment & supplies.
  • Maintain & assists with ordering/stocking of supplies.
  • Complete Nitrazine control log.
  • Assist with newborn care in the delivery room.
  • Understand/adhere to hospital & department policy and procedure.
  • Follows direction appropriately.
  • Works independently.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality
  • Operate typewriter, fax, copier, and other office related equipment.
