About The Position

The Medical Scribe acts as an assistant during the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician, physician assistant or nurse practitioner. Documents and gathers information during the treatment process. Organizes healthcare data to provide better service and efficiency of clinical care. Supports doctors and patients through a variety of tasks related to patient care, management, organization and communication. The specific responsibilities of the Medical Assistant encompass but are not limited to the following: Accompany the healthcare provider into patient examination rooms in order to transcribe the patient’s history, physical exam findings, consultations, labs, X-rays, and other evaluations, as stated by the provider, directly into the medical record List all proper diagnoses and symptoms as well as follow up instructions and prescriptions as dictated by the provider Prepare plans for follow-up care, as directed by the provider Document any procedures performed by the provider Transcribe patient orders including laboratory tests, radiology tests, medications and the like Establish and maintain constructive working relationships with patients, coworkers, providers, managers, hospital staff and other individuals that you interact with at Fondren Orthopedic Group

Requirements

  • Knowledge of electronic medical records software and procedures
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational and planning skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office and patient management software
  • Knowledge of HIPAA and OSHA requirements
  • Ability to move about and follow a healthcare provider for extended periods of time
  • Ability to work in a stressful and fast-paced environment
  • Ability to read, write, speak and comprehend fluent English is required; candidates that are bilingual English/Spanish are preferred
  • Ability to operate a computer and/or laptop through proficient typing (70 WPM or faster), clicking, and viewing a monitor for extended periods
  • Ability to hand write legibly
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • High School diploma or equivalent is required

Nice To Haves

  • Associates degree or Sophomore level (or higher collegiate grade level) on a pre-health education track (pre-med, pre-PA, pre-nursing or healthcare administration) is preferred
  • Collegiate GPA of 3.25 or higher strongly preferred
  • Certification as a medical scribe by the American College of Clinical Information Managers (ACCIM) preferred

Responsibilities
