This position is located downtown OKC and is required to be onsite daily. Hours: Monday-Friday 8am-5pm Extended hours and weekend OT may be required due to business needs. The Scrap Processing Specialist supports APMEX’s Scrap Buying operation by accurately evaluating and processing incoming scrap jewelry for melt, refinement, or secondary resale. This role is responsible for identifying metal types, verifying hallmarks, performing detailed purity and weight assessments, and preparing items for assay or refining according to APMEX standards. The processor ensures all products are handled with exceptional attention to detail, maintaining strict chain-of-custody, security, and documentation procedures within APMEX’s operational environment. This position plays a key role in supporting efficient product flow, accurate valuation, and maximizing precious-metal recovery, contributing directly to the reliability and reputation of APMEX’s operational standard. A Day in the Life of a Scrap Processing Specialist: Ensuring all incoming packages are located and held in the scrap processing area each day while working with the APMEX receiving team. Performs counterfeit-detection procedures, including verification of suspected plated or non-authentic jewelry, silverware, bullion and numismatic items, to help safeguard APMEX’s reputation and ensure proper handling of incoming material. Identify, test, and classify scrap materials items using APMEX’s approved tools, procedures, and testing equipment. Prepare scrap items for melt, assay, or refining, ensuring accurate documentation and proper chain-of-custody. Organize, label, and distribute processed scrap to the appropriate internal teams, including Operations, Product Management, and Numismatics. Maintain scrap inventory areas by ensuring materials are properly stored, tracked, and accounted for. Assist with resolving discrepancies or issues related to scrap orders, testing results, or documentation. Other tasks as assigned by the supervisor/team lead.
