About The Position

Scientist I/II, Field Applications Support PacBio is seeking a wet-lab Field Applications Scientist (FAS) with responsibility focus to support trainings, validations, and implementation solutions for customers using all PacBio instrumentation, software, applications and consumables. Looking for candidates with the ability to communicate with customers in both pre- and post-sales environments, interact with marketing, internal support and development, and communicate results/updates to diverse audiences. In addition, pre-sales and post-sales activities will be expected in conjunction with our Sales organization. This individual will be working in a fast-paced commercial environment, interacting with customers as well as other scientists and engineers. This individual is a partner to the customer in the understanding account needs and providing solutions with PacBio’s platforms, products and supported workflows. This position requires residing within Northern California Bay/surrounding Area (San Francisco, San Jose, Oakland, and Sacramento).

Requirements

  • Normally requires a PhD in a related scientific discipline, or Masters with a minimum of 1-2 years of related experience or B.S. in a scientific discipline with a minimum of 4-6 years of related experience.
  • Knowledge of some common DNA sequence analysis tools and workflows such as sequence alignment, genome visualization, comparative genomics, sequence/structural variation discovery, and epigenetics
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Experience troubleshooting
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with other field team members
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 75% of the time within defined territory
  • Candidates must have current authorization to work in the United States without the need for present or future sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years of experience in field applications and pre-/post-sales customer support preferred.
  • A degree in Molecular Biology/Genetics preferred
  • Support of installation, training, implementation, and application of sequencing instruments and assays
  • Experience in extraction, library prep, sequencing is preferred
  • Experienced in conducting scientific presentations to internal and external audiences for pre- and post-sales activities

Responsibilities

  • Assist customers in designing and conducting experiments to effectively utilize the PacBio instruments, workflows within their laboratories
  • Work with Technical Support team to provide timely technical and application assistance in response to customer inquiries
  • Work with Sales Account Managers to identify business opportunities, understand customer research needs, and position appropriate PacBio products and solutions in both pre and post-sale activities.
  • Assist account teams with conducting scientific presentations to internal and external audiences
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with customers and key opinion leaders in the field
  • Able to efficiently problem-solve and overcome technical challenges in the field
  • Team player who can effectively integrate internal and field-based activities across functions to support customer requirements
  • Assess the customer’s experimental needs and implement training, experimental designs, and analytical approaches to ensure customer success and communicate results to appropriate internal teams
  • Provide scientific and applications feedback to R&D, Product Marketing, and Sales teams. Work with these teams to continually improve workflows to support the use of the PacBio platforms
