About The Position

SCIENTIFIC DIRECTOR , Koch Institute (KI) for Integrative Cancer Research - Metabolite Profiling Core Facility , to support metabolism-based research projects in a variety of experimental models through the use of high-resolution, accurate-mass, liquid chromatography mass spectrometry. Responsibilities include overseeing and further developing the operation of a state-of-the-art facility consisting of targeted and untargeted metabolomics and lipidomics platforms using high-resolution, accurate-mass, liquid chromatography mass spectrometry (LC/MS); collaborating with and advising scientists at KI, MIT, Whitehead Institute, and external institutions on developing and applying LC/MS-based metabolomic/lipidomic experiments to advance the research; consulting on experimental design, analyzing and interpreting metabolomic/lipidomic data, and developing new LC/MS-based assays as projects dictate; participating in grant writing and manuscript preparation and on the acquisition of new equipment to expand and advance scientific applications; and performing other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in biological/physical sciences or a related discipline
  • a minimum of four years of research experience, preferably in a biological/biomedical setting
  • comprehensive understanding of quantitative methods in mass spectrometry and metabolomics, including instrument operation, sample preparation, and data analysis
  • experience with lipidomics or willingness/ability to learn
  • strong communication, troubleshooting, and problem solving skills
  • ability to collaborate with scientists to consult on experimental design, data analysis, and interpretation
  • supervisory experience
  • ability to work as part of a team
