About The Position

To assist teachers, administrators, and parents in better understanding the psychological and educational needs of children for the purpose of facilitating learning and total adjustment.

Requirements

  • Meets certification requirements established by the State Department of Education.
  • Approved by the Special Education Section of the State Department.
  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • All USD 383 employees must pass a background check.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses difficulties of referred students through appropriate testing and diagnostic procedures and helps identify all types of exceptional children.
  • Interprets diagnoses to school personnel, other concerned professionals, and parents.
  • Makes recommendations on ways to facilitate a students learning and total adjustment.
  • Participates in the decision-making process and placement of all types of exceptional children.
  • Consult with parents, staff members, and mental health professionals.
  • May conduct short term individual or group therapy for students.
  • Serves as a resource person in the areas of learning and behavioral psychology.
  • Acts as a liaison between the school and the various community/state mental health agencies.
  • Assist administrators, teachers, other school personnel, and parents/guardians in understanding and adhering to legislation and regulations relevant to general and special education services.
  • Maintains clinical file(s) on all referred students.
  • Other duties as assigned by administration.
