About The Position

SCHOOL FINANCE, ACCOUNT ANALYST 2 Job Location: SCHOOL FINANCE SECTION PHOENIX LOCATION Posting Details: SALARY: $60,000 - $65,000 GRADE: 21 CLOSING DATE: 04/05/26 Job Summary: • Provides advanced technical and analytical support to school districts and charter districts to ensure compliance with Arizona student data reporting and school finance requirements. • Rare in-state travel may be required for this position. The Arizona Department of Education currently utilizes a hybrid work environment, with up to two days of remote work (contingent upon business needs). Candidates should apply with an ability and willingness to work in-office up to five days per week as business needs necessitate.

Requirements

  • Familiarity with Arizona Revised Statutes (Title 15) related to student data membership
  • Experience analyzing complex programs and large data sets to identify trends, discrepancies, and compliance issues
  • Demonstrated understanding of systems analysis and business process improvement methodologies
  • Experience supporting both business operations and information systems, including troubleshooting process and system‑related issues
  • Exemplary customer service skills, including responsiveness, accuracy, and follow-through
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience using database systems
  • Public speaking
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft applications, particularly Excel and PowerPoint
  • Manage inquiries and service tickets, set clear expectations, and document resolutions effectively
  • Clearly communicate rules and regulations, legislative guidelines, and program policies to external stakeholders
  • Work independently and/or collaboratively in groups as necessary
  • Exercise independent judgment in accordance with statutes, regulations, and departmental policies to resolve complex issues

  • Preference will be given to those applicants with experience in the Arizona Education Data Standards (AzEDS), School Finance, Payment and Budget systems.

Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance to school districts and charter schools on statutory requirements impacting student data reporting, Average Daily Membership (ADM) attendance, Teacher Experience Index (TEI), transportation, and basic state aid.
  • Research and analyze monthly ADM changes and policy updates.
  • Communicate impacts and required actions to districts and charter districts.
  • Guide school staff in resolving integrity errors caused by data that does not align with business rules or by technical issues requiring escalation.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for school finance inquiries, providing timely and accurate customer service
  • Guide stakeholders to appropriate resources, documentation, and training materials
  • Collaborate with internal teams and leadership to ensure consistent application of statutes and policies
  • Manage data used for state/federal reporting and payment systems, process prior-year corrections, and support technical documentation
  • Identify issues requiring escalation with leadership and Local Education Agencies (LEAs) to resolve complex data or system issues
  • Document resolutions and track recurring issues to identify trends
  • Review and analyze student data submitted by districts and charter schools for accuracy and compliance
  • Partner with the SF Payments team and Local Education Agencies (LEAs) to correct data issues impacting ADM calculations and other state aid funding sources
  • Identify discrepancies and explain school finance formulas and ADM calculation methods such as online instruction, CTEDs, alternative schools, and dropout recovery schools
  • Respond to requests for information regarding student reporting and funding from districts, charter schools, and internal stakeholders
  • Support the supervisor in developing, revising, and implementing internal and external procedures
  • Independently manage assigned projects and maintain comprehensive documentation for operational processes and systems
  • Review and validate business rules for system updates driven by internal policy changes or legislative requirements
  • Develop user acceptance testing (UAT) plans
  • Monitor system updates for completeness and accuracy
  • Identify, document, and report data issues and required system corrections to the Director
  • Plan, develop, and deliver training materials, presentations, and workshops for Local Education Agencies (LEAs) related to School Finance reporting
  • Work independently or as part of a team to deliver training
  • Analyze training feedback and operational data to identify trends
  • Recommend process improvements based on findings
  • Update training materials, procedure manuals, and internal guidance based on gathered feedback
  • Maintain a working knowledge of student information systems (SIS) and data-reporting processes
