The Scheduler performs clerical and communication functions in the department/clinic. This role involves scheduling patient appointments, providing courteous reception, answering phones, and registering new patients. Various office duties, including filing and sorting, are also part of the role. The Scheduler reviews new patient referrals/authorizations for adequate coding, performs new patient registration, insurance verification, and scheduling as necessary. This position requires working with all physicians in the Department/Clinic and serving as the first point of contact for all patients, ensuring a consistent superior customer service experience in line with the Center's mission and vision. Key responsibilities include demonstrating excellent customer service, greeting and checking in patients, identifying and clarifying patient needs, confirming identity and eligibility, obtaining required signatures, and answering patient questions. The Scheduler also acts as an advocate/liaison for patients and the Health Center, answers telephones promptly and professionally, directs calls, uses sound judgment in handling calls (especially with upset patients), understands when to escalate calls, maintains delegated worklists through the electronic medical record, ensures efficient and safe use of equipment, handles patient requests, provides benefit plan and eligibility information, adheres to policies, and performs care coordinator duties when assigned.
