About The Position

Position Summary: The SBA Portfolio + Lending Specialist supports both the servicing and origination of SBA and USDA loans. This role is designed to maintain and enhance the existing SBA/USDA loan portfolio (60%) while contributing to new loan production and business development (40%) with an emphasis on mission-driven lending to local businesses and communities, while occasionally supporting larger national accounts. The incumbent will build client relationships, identify business development and growth opportunities and execute strategic lending solutions aligned with business goals. Requirements

  • Ability to read and analyze financial statements and credit reports
  • Practical experience with SBA and USDA loan structures and SOPs
  • Understanding of real estate lending and collateral documentation
  • Proven ability to interpret and synthesize SBA servicing and origination SOPs, navigate informal or unwritten guidelines, and exercise sound judgment in complex or ambiguous eligibility scenarios.
  • Capable of conducting early viability assessments to filter out misinformation and identify qualified loan opportunities.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 2+years of commercial banking or SBA/USDA lending experience

Responsibilities

  • Safeguard the SBA guaranty through sound credit and compliance practices.
  • Maintain and audit SBA and USDA loan files, including 10-tab compliance and annual reviews.
  • Monitor collateral and ensure SBA/USDA guaranty protections are maintained.
  • Coordinate with Lending Service Providers (LSPs) on various items.
  • Assist with loan workouts and guaranty recovery processes.
  • Review portfolio reports and prioritize SBA/USDA compliance tasks.
  • Maintain relationships with LSPs and manage shared site uploads.
  • Prepare Watch List reports and support classified credit reviews.
  • Collaborate with Relationship Managers to collect underwriting documentation early.
  • Generate SBA USDA loans by identifying and cultivating new business opportunities through local outreach and referral networks.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, peers, referral sources and internal partners.
  • Conduct financial analysis and credit underwriting to assess borrower eligibility.
  • Participate in loan proposals for approval by credit committee.
  • Ensure all loans comply with SBA/USDA guidelines and internal credit policies.
  • Track pipeline activity and maintain accurate records of business development efforts.
  • Educate clients on SBA/USDA loan programs and assist them through the application process.
  • Attend community and networking events in order to build a network of centers of influence
  • Attend SBA/USDA training and stay current on SOPs and procedural notices.
  • Assumes additional responsibilities for the growth and advancement of the credit union.
