Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required, post-secondary education in Food Science, Microbiology, or related field preferred
  • Minimum 3 years of sanitation experience in a food manufacturing environment
  • Prior leadership or supervisory experience preferred
  • Working knowledge of GMPs, HACCP, SSOPs, and food safety standards
  • Experience in a regulated environment (USDA/FDA) preferred
  • Redzone or other control software experience preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership and team development capabilities, with the ability to motivate and guide team performance
  • Strong sense of accountability and ownership, with a commitment to achieving results and maintaining standards
  • High attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and consistency in sanitation processes and documentation
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally across departments
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with a focus on continuous improvement and operational efficiency
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience that demonstrate the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered on an individual basis.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred, but not required

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct supervision, scheduling, and daily direction to the sanitation team, backing up and supporting the Sanitation Manager
  • Ensure all sanitation procedures are executed in compliance with GMPs, HACCP plans, and company policies
  • Verify completion and effectiveness of sanitation activities through inspections, ATP testing (if applicable), and documentation review
  • Partner with Quality Assurance and Production teams to support startup readiness and minimize downtime
  • Ensure enforcement of Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs) and Master Sanitation Schedules (MSS), making recommendations for updates as appropriate
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements (USDA, FDA, OSHA) and support internal and external audits
  • Coach, train, and develop employees, address performance issues in alignment with company policies
  • Monitor chemical usage, inventory, and proper handling to ensure safety and cost control
  • Identify continuous improvement opportunities related to sanitation processes, efficiency, and food safety
  • Assist with root cause investigations and corrective actions for sanitation-related deviations or non-conformances
  • Other duties as assigned
