About The Position

A well established and respected LA area Wholesaler / Distributer / Shipper is expanding, consistently achieving year-over-year growth. They seek a sales pro to join their successful sales team and continue their expansion. The role seeks a successful background selling fresh produce throughout Southern California, the West, and / or nationally; experience developing program sales; a current book of business; solid business development attributes to bring new customers to the company. Knowledge of veg commodities a plus, but open to multiple commodity backgrounds. Ability to buy / sell a plus. This is an opportunity for an energetic, self-motivated, organized, “hunter” sales personality. Position based in Los Angeles. Strongly prefer the position to be based in the Los Angeles office. Could be some potential for consideration of a hybrid arrangement if candidate possesses excellent qualifications.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of fresh produce sales experience.
  • Demonstrated success developing business.
  • “Hunter” sales personality, self-starter, interested in prospecting and landing new customers.
  • Expertise in the fresh produce industry and strong knowledge of the commodities you handle.
  • Must be well organized and able to handle multiple priorities.
  • Strong communication skills and follow-through.
  • Ability to excel in a hands-on, fast paced environment.
  • Experience with ERP systems like Produce Pro, Famous, or other systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of veg commodities a plus, but open to multiple commodity backgrounds.
  • Ability to buy / sell a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Work with management on developing target prospective customers.
  • Prospect and sell to customers across all types, such as regional retail, foodservice, and many others.
  • Develop business with your own customer base.
  • Develop program business, strong forecasting skills.
  • Know customer quality preferences, minimize rejections.
  • Form relationships with various levels of potential customer organizations.
  • Develop new category(ies) and / or expand customer base for current commodity offerings.
  • Work closely with management, communicate well with team members.
  • Work closely with shipping and warehouse.
  • Keep on top of inventory levels and product availability.
  • Consistent travel to company shipping facility.
  • Some travel to customers, trade shows, industry events.
