About The Position

J.J. Nichting is seeking a high-energy, self-motivated individual to join our team as a Sales Representative with a primary focus on growing our livestock equipment presence. Ideal candidates will be located within or near the following Missouri counties: Adair, Putnam, Schuyler, Sullivan, Scotland, and Knox or Iowa counties: Davis, and Appanoose. This representative’s home base office will be in Pilot Grove or Sigourney, Iowa. J.J. Nichting is a leading implement dealer in the tri-state area of Iowa, Illinois, and Missouri, representing top manufacturing lines such as CASE IH and New Holland. This position is focused on expanding our footprint in the livestock market, building long-lasting relationships with livestock producers, and providing equipment solutions that support their operations. The ideal candidate will be driven, customer-focused, and able to relate to livestock farmers through real-world experience. This role will prospect and generate new agriculture equipment business, perform cold calls in the field, support existing customers, and conduct product demonstrations with an emphasis on livestock and hay equipment. While this position requires the ability to work independently, the individual will be accountable to the location manager and expected to communicate activity, progress, and results on a regular basis.

Requirements

  • Hands-on livestock experience required, with the ability to relate to and communicate effectively with livestock producers.
  • Proven success in agricultural or equipment sales.
  • Strong knowledge of livestock and hay equipment.
  • Excellent negotiation, relationship-building, and closing skills.
  • Customer-focused mindset with a commitment to long-term relationships.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently while remaining accountable to the location manager.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Comfortable using technology, including CRM systems and mobile sales tools.
  • Willingness to prospect, perform cold calls, and grow market share.
  • Valid driver’s license, ability to travel regularly within the territory and successful completion of a driving record review.

Responsibilities

  • Serve customers by selling products and meeting customer needs, with a strong emphasis on livestock operations.
  • Grow J.J. Nichting’s livestock equipment presence by developing new customer relationships and expanding existing accounts.
  • Plan and organize daily work schedules to effectively call on existing and prospective customers.
  • Analyze customer needs within the livestock segment to focus sales efforts and provide appropriate solutions.
  • Conduct product demonstrations and provide knowledgeable recommendations tailored to livestock producers.
  • Keep management informed through daily call reports, weekly work plans, and monthly and annual territory analyses.
  • Consistently use and maintain the CRM to document customer activity, sales opportunities, and pipeline status.
  • Monitor competition by gathering marketplace information on pricing, products, delivery schedules, and merchandising techniques.
  • Recommend changes in products, service, and policy by evaluating results and competitive developments.
  • Resolve customer concerns by investigating issues, developing solutions, and communicating recommendations to management.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge through required training and education.
