About The Position

The Safety Specialist, reporting to the Safety Manager, is responsible for training, overseeing and enforcing all safety practices in the workplace. Continually focus on the improvement of processes to ensure customers’ needs are being met, employees are working safely, and all required safety documentation is completed. This position works Monday through Friday, from 7am-4pm. The compensation for this position starts at $52K/year, depending on experience.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma required; 2 years of college experience in related field, preferred
  • Certifications and/or completed course work in OSHA regulatory compliance preferred.
  • Minimum of one (1) to two (2) years related experience preferred.
  • Detailed knowledge of current OSHA standards and how they impact the workplace.
  • Proficient in all Microsoft business applications such as Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Working knowledge of warehouse operations and warehouse management systems.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English (Bilingual Spanish/English skills preferred).
  • Ability to interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as organizational skills and attention to detail. Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines and the ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain detailed knowledge of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines and how to use those guidelines to ensure a safe and compliant work environment.
  • Complete weekly, monthly and annual safety inspections in assigned facility(s).
  • Regularly reviews all required safety documentation and update as necessary.
  • Develop and present overall safety and food safety agenda items at facility/department meetings, daily huddles.
  • Ensure the company complies with all current safety regulation and that all employees are aware of safety requirements and are prepared to follow safety procedures.
  • Train employees in the safe use of Powered Industrial Vehicles (PIVs); provides retraining as necessary.
  • In conjunction with the safety manager and facility leadership, identify root causes of non-conformance and implement corrective actions.
  • Respond to on-site emergencies, investigates workplace injuries and accidents; conduct reviews and follow up actions as necessary.
  • In collaboration with facility leadership, drive employee involvement at all levels of the organization and encourage active participation in the safety programs.
  • Recommend ways to improve health and safety in the workplace that reduce injuries and accidents.
  • Maintain ongoing knowledge of current state and federal workplace safety regulations.
  • Develop, prioritize, and direct programs to reduce injuries and accidents and drive a culture of safety.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Approximately 20% - 30% local travel. Based on business needs, may be required to travel more or less often
